What is a theme? A theme captures a pattern of shared meaning across your data - not just a topic, but what participants are saying about that topic.

Good themes:

• Are grounded in what participants actually said
• Capture something meaningful about experience or perspective
• Are distinct from one another (minimal overlap)
• Help answer your research questions

You can:

• Edit theme names and descriptions to better reflect your data
• Merge themes that overlap or belong together
• Delete themes that aren't relevant to your focus
• Add themes the AI may have missed
• Refine your focus if themes aren't what you expected

Quotes provide evidence for your themes. The AI extracts verbatim quotes from your data.

• Check accuracy - verify quotes appear exactly as in your original data
• Reassign quotes - move quotes to different themes if better suited
• Delete quotes - remove any that aren't representative or useful
• Note the source - quotes include source attribution for your records

Audience: Choose who will read your summary - this affects vocabulary and framing.

Summary type:

• Synthesised - All themes woven into one flowing narrative
• Individual - Separate write-up for each theme (useful for reports)
